The links shown are very long for directly driven fibre optic connections and use special purpose drivers to cover these distances:

University of Dundee to University of Abertay Dundee: 1.5km
University of Dundee to University of St Andrews: 23km
University of St Andrews to University of Abertay Dundee: 23.3km

Total length: 47.8km

All links use ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) to provide a modern multi-service network which can carry data, video and voice. In addition there is one FDDI link to ensure operation of a vital data connection.
